The City of Moorpark is excited to announce that they have received two grants to offset the cost of the new Moorpark City Library project. In March 2022, City staff applied for a California Library Infrastructure Grant in the amount of $4.6 million. The grant is typically used for renovation projects on existing libraries, however, if the grant applicant is able to prove that new construction is less expensive that renovating the old building, the grant was eligible for that use as well. City staff was able to show that renovating the old structure was not cost effective and scored favorably on the grant.  In addition to the Infrastructure Grant, Congresswoman Julia Brownley secured $750,000 in funding for the project as part of the federal omnibus bill passed in December. The Moorpark library is one of 17 Ventura County projects totaling $28.9 million included in the spending package. Together these two grants total $5.35 million, or 23% of the total library cost of $23 million. Way to go City of Moorpark!

Letters from Santa Update

We are happy to announce that once again our Letters from Santa program was a big success and a wonderful time was had by all.  Many of our local parents, grandparents other kid-loving folks gifted some lucky children with a package including letters addressed to them from Santa, coupons for books, and treats from our generous merchants: 7-11, Coaches Ice Cream, and Coffee a la Mode.
Thank you all for making this another great fundraiser for the library programs.

The most fun of all was our reindeer/car caravan to the winning family’s home on December 17.  Bill and Jennifer Evans were bursting with anticipation of the surprise awaiting their 21/2 year-old son Dalton.  His smile lit up the block as Santa, Mrs. Claus, and elves brought gifts and greeted him.  Santa had a good conversation with Dalton and assured him that he would visit their home again on Christmas Eve.
